The Julep is one of the world’s great timeless and classic cocktails. In fact, this drink is so iconic, it even has its own dedicated cup! Our Julep Cup is a classic example of the style, with a rugged steel design that helps to keep your julep cocktail extra frosty and to give you that classic julep aesthetic! Our Classic Julep Cup is built to last, helping to keep your cocktails cold and delicious for many years to come.
While the Julep cocktail is most associated with Kentucky (it’s believed over 100,000 Mint Juleps are consumed on-site at the Kentucky Derby each year!), the history of this cocktail might just surprise you! There’s evidence that the name originates from the middle east, and cocktail historian David Wondrich dates references to Juleps used for medicinal purposes back to the year 900. Now that’s what we call a true classic!
A classic Mint Julep is a great example of beauty in simplicity. Bourbon, simple syrup, and fresh mint leaves are gently muddled in a Julep cup, and then the cup is filled with crushed ice (crushed ice is key!), and garnished with a mint sprig. To help you make the most of your cup, we’ll also include a recipe below for a simple riff – the Ginger Julep. Here are the details:
Ginger Julep - Imbibe Magazine
This riff on the classic Julep cocktail adds the spiciness of ginger liqueur to the mix, which plays well with the bold Bourbon and fresh mint.
- 3 oz Bourbon
- 5 oz Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur
- 5 Mint Sprigs
In a Julep cup, gently muddle the mint and ginger liqueur. Fill the cup with crushed ice, pour the Bourbon over the ice, top with more ice, and garnish with a fresh sprig of mint. Insert your straw and enjoy!
