Copper plated clamshell Julep strainer

The julep strainer is one of the most timeless and iconic tools in the world of cocktails. The julep strainer was patented in the late 1800s, right around the time that ice became more common and widely available for use in cocktails. The shape of the julep strainer allowed it to fit into most cocktail glasses and mixing glasses, and the perforated design allowed the liquid portion of the cocktail to flow freely while holding back ice. While the popularity of the julep strainer was eventually eclipsed with the development of the Hawthorne Strainer, the julep strainer's timeless design is still prized by bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts around the world.

Our New Orleans Julep Strainer is a unique take on the classic, featuring a beautiful clamshell design available in a selection of 4 stunning finishes – stainless steel, gold, copper, and gunmetal black. Our New Orleans Julep Strainer works perfectly with our Fifth & Vermouth Mixing Glasses and can also be used with our selection of cocktail shakers.

If you’re looking for a recipe to try out your New Orleans Julep Strainer, might we suggest a classic that died out after the prohibition, but was revitalized in the 2000s.

Last Word

The Last Word is a prohibition-era cocktail that has stood the test of time thanks to its simplicity and balance between acidity and sweetness. Invented at the Detroit Athletic Club in the early 1920s, it became a hit at Seattle clubs when Murray Stenson renewed the popularity by selling it at the Zig Zag Cafe.
