Everyone enjoys Milk & Cookies over the holidays. Check out Seth Ball’s creation, the Milk & Cookies, which pairs perfectly with warm baked cookies.
Fifth & Vermouth proudly presents Seth Ball of Donna Mac, a restaurant and bar in downtown Calgary, Alberta. Seth speaks from personal experience with the inspiration of the cocktail Milk & Cookies. Who doesn’t love Milk & Cookies during the holidays, a quiet evening, or leaving some for Santa Clause? Today, we bring you Seth’s story.
When drinking a cocktail, we often just think about how it tastes, looks, and smells but I think we overlook how a cocktail makes us feel. The theme and inspiration for this drink are to make you feel comfy and cozy on long winter nights. What makes us feel more comfy, cozy than milk and cookies? Rich, chewy, decadent cookies dunked into milk with every dunk adding delicious cookie goodness to the milk that you get to enjoy once the cookie is gone.
This whole thought process started when our chefs at Donna Mac just baked a fresh batch of cookies for our staff to enjoy. One of the servers on shift had poured themselves a glass of milk to have with their cookie and I couldn’t remember the last time I actually dunked cookies in milk, so I went ahead and poured a glass for myself. After the first bite, I thought to myself “why the heck did I stop doing this!” It was so good! Fast forward three cookies later while drink orders are backing up on the bar. At that moment, I was transported back to being a kid during the holidays with fresh pastries, comfy blankets, and crackling fires. Wasn’t long before I decided it was time to capture this nostalgia in a cup! My cocktail uses warm spice and sweet flavors like cinnamon, ginger, graham cracker, almond, and chocolate to create a very yummy drink that should *definitely* be served with cookies.

Creating the Cocktail:
This drink is super simple to put together especially with fifth and vermouths barware and equipment. All you need is a jigger, Hawthorne strainer, and Boston shaker. All you need to do is add all the ingredients to your shaker tin, add ice and give it a nice shake. Then single strain the mixture out over a rocks glass with ice in it and serve with your favorite cookies.
