When it comes to bar tools, it doesn’t get more classic than the bourbon county julep strainer! The julep strainer features a simple yet effective design that was first patented in the late 1800s. The strainer’s perforated design allowed it to sit in a glass, allowing liquid to flow through and holding the ice back in the glass. It’s believed that the julep strainer was also popular with cocktail fans who had large beards but still wanted to imbibe with dignity. Whatever the case, the julep strainer became wildly popular leading into the 20th century. While the julep strainer eventually became overshadowed by the Hawthorne strainer, which was seen by some as a more efficient tool, the julep strainer is still prized by top bartenders and cocktail connoisseurs around the world.
Our Bourbon County Julep Strainer features a timeless design combined with solid construction. This strainer fits nicely into our mixing glasses and Boston shakers and is perfect for straining stirred, shaken, or muddled cocktails. Our Bourbon County Strainer comes in a selection of 3 beautiful finishes including copper, gold, and gunmetal black.

Trident
The Trident was created by Seattle-based bartender Robert Hess. It is a riff on the Negroni using an obscure set of ingredients inspired by the sea. This cocktail was so popular at the Zig Zag Cafe where "The Last Word" cocktails were revitalized, that it ended up selling more Cynar than everywhere else in Washington at the time!
Ingredients:
- 1 oz Aquavit
- 1 oz Cynar
- 1 oz Dry Sherry (Oloroso or Amontillado)
- 2 dashes Peach Bitters
Add all ingredients into a mixing glass. Add ice and stir until chilled. Strain into a chilled Professional Series Coupe glass. Garnish with a lemon peel. Enjoy!
